Established in September 2019 we don’t use pink flamingos as mallets but we do have fun! Croquet has the image of being an elite pastime played by English gentry in their country houses or indeed for only serious individuals who are highly competitive...... As the founding members and owners Denise Dahl and the late Terje Dahl had a common goal to smash the traditional image of croquet. Denise endeavours, with the help of supportive club members, to achieve this goal.
Our focus is to give our members and guests the best environment to enjoy the club’s sporting and social facilities whilst providing a supportive and friendly atmosphere. We value diversity and equality and want to provide dignity and respect to all. All we ask is our members and guests do the same.
Everyone is welcome, all nationalities, beginners and experienced. All we ask is that members share our own values of honesty, integrity and humbleness - with of course the ability to laugh and have fun! We chose the motto above to be part of our logo to remind us - and our members - of not just why why we decided to form this club but why we first decided to play croquet or join a club. We might all have very different reasons but we can all probably agree it has to do with doing something different, meeting new people and maybe finding new friends - but most of all it is about doing something that helps us to enjoy life! Without being corny, life is short and we should seek out people and activities that embrace having fun!
As we are also a social club it’s also very important for us to hold regular large and small social events throughout the year.
As a non-profit entity we commit to any annual profit and any other money raised be donated to local good causes. We have previously donated to Alerta who support the needs of firefighters across the Algarve; SER IGUAL who provide rehabilitation services for disabled children, Santa Maria Elderly Home in Tavira and Doctors Without Borders in support of the Ukraine war.
In March 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic we recognised that many families were affected by the closure of businesses and subsequent unemployment. We took action and founded East Algarve Families in Need. This charitable cause fed families struggling economically until July 2021.
To reinforce we are a different kind of club, and to differentiate ourselves from players of other sports at Pedras Da Rainha, we have broken with the all-white tradition and have chosen aqua and white as our club colours.
If you have not played croquet before, we would suggest a free trial session with some basic instruction. Contact us through the Contact Page to arrange a mutually convienient time. All you need is a pair of shoes with flat soles. Alternatively, drop in and see us at Pedras da Rainha any Sunday morning, between 10:00 and 12:00.
If, as we hope, you then feel that you would like to become a full member of PFCSC you pay an annual Membership fee of €150. Non-members with their own mallet pay €5 a day and including the use of a club mallet €10 a day.
Croquet players are a friendly bunch and will happily give you guidance as you learn the ropes and improve your game.
